Building on the success of Sonos and IKEA’s collaborative SYMFONISK WiFi speakers, we take a look at how the combination of audio expertise and design know-how are making it easier and more accessible than ever to achieve showstopping home theater sound, and walk you through the process of creating your own surround sound system.

IKEA and Sonos first launched the SYMFONISK range of speakers in 2019, combining Sonos’ commitment to high-quality sound with IKEA’s classic Scandinavian design, at a more accessible price. Since the initial collaboration, we’ve refined SYMFONISK’s design and thought even more deeply about how these different products can work together, particularly when it comes to surround sound and home theater.

This thought process is encapsulated in our first collaborative in-store demonstration at the IKEA store in Utrecht, Netherlands, featuring a beautiful home theater setup with a Sonos Ray soundbar and a pair of SYMFONISK bookshelf surround speakers. By combining Sonos’ audio expertise with IKEA’s timeless design, we’ve made it easier than ever to bring superb cinematic sound into homes of all sizes.

If you’ve ever wanted to make your movies, TV shows, and games more immersive, then start with Ray, the newest and most accessible Sonos soundbar. Ray may be compact, but is surprisingly powerful, versatile, and incredibly simple to set up, making it easier than ever to enjoy blockbuster sound at home. Ray connects to virtually any TV, works seamlessly with all your favorite streaming services, and even fits neatly into enclosed spaces. It’s perfect for TVs under 55” in particular, and will usually tuck nicely under the screen itself, but Ray has also been designed specifically to fit IKEA’s BESTÅ system, including the BESTA TV stand.

Once it’s plugged in, setting up Ray takes just a few minutes with the help of the Sonos app, with step-by-step instructions guiding you through the process. You can also use the app to enable unique TV settings like Night Mode and Speech Enhancement to elevate your viewing experience.

For a true cinematic experience, adding surround sound is a must. By adding a pair of rear speakers, the two-dimensional sensation of listening with a soundbar becomes vastly more immersive. This is where SYMFONISK comes in: place two bookshelf or lamp speakers to the right and left of your sofa, pair them with Ray using the Sonos app, and say hello to a whole new world of immersive sound.

Designed to deliver incredible audio quality while also blending seamlessly into your home, SYMFONISK speakers combine the very best of Sonos and IKEA. Again, versatility is key: the SYMFONISK line includes bookshelf speakers, picture frames, table lamps, and our newly-released floor lamp, meaning that whatever your living space looks like, you’ll find something that fits in. SYMFONISK lamps also come with a wide range of interchangeable shades, allowing you to customize your sound with your interior style.

Once you’ve placed your rear speakers and connected them to your soundbar, you can adjust the EQ to your listening preference using the Sonos app, and use Trueplay to tailor the sound of your system to the specific acoustics of your living space. Within a few minutes, you’ll enjoy full surround sound and a more immersive home viewing experience, with minimal hassle.
